Grounded in Gratitude — Day 7

It Starts at Home

Home is where you hang your hat.
Home is where the heart is.
"We're all just walking each other home." (~Ram Dass)

No matter how you look at it, home is one of the most precious aspects of life. As such, it deserves our appreciation illustrated in both our attitudes and our actions.

Where we live represents far more than shelter and (presumably) safety. It represents our tastes and priorities, the place where we are supremely comfortable and are ourselves. When we appreciate something, we're more likely to take care of it. Gratitude can inspire us to maintain, clean, and improve our living space while reducing material acquisition.

In a society that often emphasizes bigger and better, gratitude for home can shield you from the negative emotions associated with comparing your living situation to others. A cozy and secure home provides a stable base from which you can pursue goals and enjoy other aspects of your life.

There are a number of ways you can express gratitude for your home. You can look around and take stock of all you have to be thankful for. You can log wonderful memories you’ve created at home. And you can take action, whether it be tidying, decluttering, or decorating.

Your action prompt today involves a choice:
You can either
Do something to create a new wonderful memory at home, whatever that might be
OR
Do something to help someone else improve their home environment or living situation.

PS—If you’re eager to minimize the clutter in your sanctuary, contact ABC DEclutter with JJ. Julie and Janis not only make decluttering doable, they make it downright fun!
